Some sources say that too much is worse than too little!  It can supposedly
both interfere with the other additives, and make the steel more brittle.

I'm also suspicious of do-it-yourself oil additives.  There are some very
smart people who spend their entire professional career trying to find just
the right combination of just the right additives to accomplish all the
goals of modern engine oil.  Throwing in your own additive without knowing
what is already in there is kind of like dumping salt in the soup without
tasting it first.  Might make it better; might not.

At the same time, almost every popular oil additive has been chastised by
the FTC for making false or unsubstantiated claims.
