Yeh!
Max was a good story teller. I was often facinated how he kept everyone
riveted when regailing us of an event or situation that had nothing to do with
racing! Not to long ago he had a bunch of us in stitches over an incident
that happened to him on his return to the states from a recent trip to Italy,
and his encounter with customs officials at Chicago's O'Hare Airport.
Max could have been a successful stand up comedian. He told a story in
similar fasion to Buddy Hackett. It was a circuitous path to the storys'
conclusion, and a lot of fun enroute. I didn't hear too many stories about
the long gone days of the Buford or 'ol Yellers, but I will forever miss the
anecdotes and reflections on other subjects, and when I next visit O'Hare I'm
going to walk by customs and extend the middle didgit of the left hand (having
some cultural significance) to one and all of these staff members along with a
great big grin; then go tip a beer to Max.
