If you want to get blown off the track by a bunch of very fast and highly
developed (oversize 911 motors, vented disc brakes, super lightwieight)
Porsche 356's, then yes, HSR s a good place to race. You will also find
limited track time at any of the larger HSR events.
If you spend the money to make your car fast enough to compete with HSR
fields, it will be illegal for most other groups, thereby limiting your
choices of dates & venues.
If you prepare your car to "period correct" specifications and leave off
the expensive, modern go-fast goodies, your car will be legal to race most
groups on the east coast (limited only by the year of eligibility).
I am one of the group reps for VDCA. We focus on period correct cars,
lots of track time, relaxed atmosphere and great parties (not necessarily in
that order).
