From the sources that I have read, the 1965-66 F2 engine was designed by
the some of the same engineers and shared some design characteristics (most
notably the roller bearing crankshaft and long stroke/high rpm). But it was
not the same engine. The F2 engines were 1000cc, 4-valve per cyl., fuel
injected and had hairpin valve springs. Honda pulled out of F2 in '67
because the new formula required that the engine be 1600cc and based on a
production motor. At that time Honda did not have a 1600cc production motor.
