That would be a correct assumption. As a wearer of nomex in fires ( being
a firefighter) I can tell you that when my Nomex hood has been wet and I've
been close enough to a fire (never been on fire...but close enought to
them) that the water in the hood does burn a little bit. It just tells me
that I'm too close to the fire.
Most of the fires I've been in the temps are only in the 200-300 F range ,
(they get up to 900F to 1200F or hotter by the ceiling) and wouldn't
compare to the fire of having gasoline on you and burning as well.
And since water turns to steam at 212, this temperature is easliy
obtainable with a quick flash from a gas fire.
So, there you go, wet your self down at your own risk.
Easy solution, everybody switches from tin tops to open tops....plenty more
air flow when you're rolling.
