In any case, the fabric doesn't ignite. It's a matter of heat transferal.
Nomex or similar is a barrier and an insulator. You can cook Nomex to death
and all it does is become more charred, but it will not ignite.
BTW, I think we're talking about safety margins measured in roughly 3-second
increments. If single-layer Nomex provides about 4-5 seconds of time-to-burn
and double layer gets you to say 14 (I don't remember exactly), the issue if
you are fully dressed with triple-layers and underwear becomes one of air
supply.
Does anyone have the time-to-burn numbers for CarbonX? What do Sparco and
OMP say?
