I haven't looked lately, but I am not sure that other technology aimed at 
keeping the oily bits on the inside of the engine would have been allowed by 
the period SCCA rules.

Specifically, Accusumps, which help preserve the bottom ends, and knock 
detectors, which help prevent holes in pistons. IMHO, these are in the same 
category as modern high boiling point brake fluid and current anti-fade pads.

I'd be in favour of those as well as almost all of the examples you offered, 
although I was a bit interested in the straight-cut, dog engagement 
transmission internals  which I wouldn't have been inclined to allow unless 
the gears sets were factory optional.
