By bbetter designedb, do you mean technically or aesthetically?

The 1968
and later cars suffered from design compromises, both technical and aesthetic,
which resulted from the need to conform to new regulations. High windshield
was to meet new wiper swept area requirements, etc. As for the brake master
cylinder/firewall issue, the addition of a simple bracing strut (not Stan's,
but an even simper design) would have killed before it ever became an issue.
That was probably an oversight caused by having to rush to make changes to
bring the cars into conformance with the new regulations.

I always thought the 67 and earlier cars
are better designed.
