I suggest you talk to Martin Jay who is known as Distributer Doctor - he is on
the internet and knows all there is to know.

It may also be worth your while talking to Steve Hall at TR Enterprises in the
UK (See www.triumphspecialtuning.com) as they now supply a modified hydraulic
timing chain tensioner kit based on the MGB unit (!) which eliminates cam
scatter in the rev range that you are talking about - my view is that this may
be at least part of the problem.
