Well...I feel exactly the same way.
As I see it, there are two groups: (1.)Those who are driving a =
significant portion (several sectors) and are willing to pay extra for a =
plate to commemorate the event, (2) Those who are picking the tour up =
locally and driving a relatively short distance, willing to pay a small =
fee (say, 10 bucks) to participate, but are not interested in a plate or =
any other trinket that costs money. I venture to guess that probably =
75%+ of participants will fall into group 2. Further, I think the fee =
structure, as proposed, will have a negative effect on attracting group =
2 participants and therefore significantly lower the overall =
participation. The additional administrative burden proposed for SC's =
is also not tenable, and will result in attrition at the SC/ASC level as =
well. These are not the desired outcomes.
So what do I suggest? =20
Align the fee structure to fit the two potential participation levels =
of the drivers. =20
(1.) Offer a full registration with commemorative plate and printed =
materials for the appropriate premium price to cover production costs - =
This "Premium Registration" would only be available on the web, and only =
up to a certain date. This will enable getting an earlier and better =
handle on revenues and sector participation, and would provide adequate =
time to allow a direct mail of the package to this modest number of =
drivers (this will result in a managed system, as opposed to the =
administrative screw ups/expenses/SC frustrations that are inevitable in =
the courier/overnight FedEx, pony express distribution proposal). =20
(2.) Offer a "Standard Registration" as the second alternative on the =
web, without a deadline. They pay 10 bucks and are registered; these =
folks get no plates, no nothing else - other than an email receipt =
(which they can print out to show that they paid) and a big emailed =
JONAT color logo (which they can print out and stick in their window, if =
they want to). Anyone who misses the deadline for Premium Registration =
will only have the Standard Registration as an option. People showing =
up en route for on-site registration will only have the Standard =
Registration as an option. SC's can give them a logo sheet, or not.
This suggestion will allow the establishment of some concrete =
deadlines, encourage early (pre)registration, and give participants the =
choice of packages/costs that they would view as appropriate for them =
individually. Those that want all the stuff will be going the Premium =
Registration route; those who are taking a short drive, or don't want =
the stuff or the expense, can still have a totally memorable drive by =
taking the Standard Registration.
So ... a registration page with two boxes - Options: Premium =
Registration/Standard Registration. =20

I second what Dave has said, judging from the (little) interest we =

trouble with the administrative complications of fees. I doubt that many =
SC=B4s would have agreed to do what they are doing if the present =
(planned) fee, fee collection, package distribution arrangement were =
known ahead of time. As a SC, I want to have fun too! The way it is set =
up, I will be spending a good deal of time on administration. Obviously, =
at this late date, I will continue as planned. But I still have trouble =

While I understand that there are various costs involved =
with JONAT, from the participant's perspective those costs are not =
really apparent. So, the local Jag club member who decides that he would =
like to support his Club and other Jag enthusiasts by participating in =
JONAT events, which are on a "user pay" basis, is required to pay $47 =
Cdn in exchange for a JONAT license plate. I tell you that this=20
will be a very tough sell. And speaking frankly, I can also =
tell you that if I weren't an ASC, I certainly wouldn't participate. =
JONAT doesn't offer anything except a license plaque and an opportunity =
to meet with other Jag owners - I can get that through my local club. =
Why would I pay $47?? Am I missing something here???
Oh, by the way, in our sector there is also the Van Dusen =
ABFM fee which is levied against all entrants to the tune of $35. =
Charging this fee, is very much like a theatre charging an entertainer =
to perform in front of the audience from whom they have charged =
admission as well. Reportedly the ABFM is Van Dusen Garden's busiest =
day. Without the British Cars at Van Dusen Gardens would Van Dusen draw =
such a crowd? - and yet we, "the performers", are charged an entry fee!! =
Something is wrong! It is like paying extra for a trendy jacket that =
has a Nike logo on it so that you can have the "priviledge" of =
advertising for that company. Nike should cut the prices of their =
jackets in exchange for you being a walking advertisement.
Thank you ....Rant over. And yes, I will pay the $47 and =
I'll probably covet my JONAT license plate "thingy" in the years to =
come. But don't be surprised if there is little local interest in JONAT=20

Hello,
I spoke with Bob earlier and discussed a different fee =
structure for late-payers. Please let me know your thoughts.
All participants who pay on-time (within 15 days of their =
sector start) would send payment to the Jonat Registrar in Regina ($36US =
or $47CAN). Their numbered plate and registration pack would be included =
in the bulk shipment that Regina sends out to their SC (12 days before =
their sector start).=20
A person who pays late (less than 15 days before their =
sector start) would still register on the website, but would not send =
payment to Regina. Instead, they would pay their SC when they met up =
with the tour. At that time, the SC would hand them a numbered plate and =
registration pack. A late fee of $8US or $11CAN would apply (discussed =
further below). The SC would forward these registration payments and =
late fees to Regina.
A person who spontaneously decides to join the tour as it is =
passing through their area would pay the same registration cost and late =
fee as the late payers, but would not necessarily register on the =
website, instead they would fill out a blank registration form carried =
by the SC's. The SC would forward these registration forms, payments, =
and late fees to Regina.=20
***************************************
Included in the regularly-scheduled bulk shipment to the SC =
would be the following:
A. Registration packs that are pre-sold to paid participants =
joining in the sector
B. Extra Registration packs to (possibly) sell during the =
sector
The cost of the late fee is calculated as follows:=20
If an SC runs out of Extra Registration packs during a =
sector, he would request an express bulk shipment (comprising perhaps 10 =
complete registration packs) from Regina that would be delivered =
overnight to an upcoming hotel. Late-payers would have to wait a day or =
so to receive their plate and registration pack. The cost of express =
shipping 10 registration packs to the SC is estimated at $80 US, or $8 =
per registration pack.
Only in cases where the SC runs out of registration packs =
will Regina incur the cost of express shipping. The rest of the time, =
the late fee is all profit for Jonat. I mean the charity.
The $8 late fee would serve as a small incentive to =
encourage early registrations, and not act as too big of a roadblock to =
late-comers or spontaneous participants.
What do you all think?
http://jonat.org/user/welcome_plus_fee.cfm shows the =
simplified explanation that drivers will see after they first register =
for the tour.
=20
The registration form is done. You can see the new form by =
viewing your profile on the website, 'My Profile' in the upper right =
hand section of the main page. http://jonat.org/user/myprofile.cfm It =
shows the sectors with checkboxes so you can select those that you will =
be participating in. These data will feed a per-sector attendance list =
that the SC's will be able to print out, thereby knowing who is =
scheduled to join their sector, and their payment status.
