Bill,

It shouldn't be a big deal, depending on the thread 
engagement.  I would pull the threaded rod out and see how 
much is threaded into the block.  Filling the lost area 
back in could be done, but I suspect the threaded hole 
would become slightly warped.

BTW, I see a drip of green on the trans case - did you 
change your t-stat lately?
