Yep, sometimes the lower gears just make more noise, but if you can get into
them and out of them cleanly and put the power down, sometimes you can pick
up time.

This past weekend was the same deal, ran the whole course in 3rd, at the end
of the day ran some hot laps on the timers and times were pretty good and
real consistant. The next day I tried a new line through the infield tight
part of the course, used 2nd gear instead, and didn't pinch the car as much
on the corners (I was using every inch I could find, barely pinching the car
backinside the corners after swinging wide!) but was able to knock off
another 1/2 sec doing this.

Some courses though I like to stay in rythm and leave it in gear, I hate
shifting then down shifting again quickly before a corner, screws up your
rythm and gets the car out of whack if you pooch something. At summit
point I always smack the limiter going under the bridge before the
straight, I just ride the limiter for 50-75 feet or so, then off into the
corner. Now that I have the tuner I can bump up the rev limit a bit, not
making any power but still going faster than shifting to 4th and back to
3rd real fast.
