Although I can't speak for other manufacturers, I can attest to the fact
that new Chevrolet engines are only run about 1 minute before being stuffed
into a car. There is no break-in running. After the engine comes off the
assembly line it is put on a running stand on a carousel, all of the
electrical and cooling are hooked up. There is a computer monitor at each
stand and the motor is cranked while the ignition timing is set. As soon as
the motor starts and it is confirmed that it runs correctly it is shut down
and taken off the carousel and put into a crate for shipment to the assembly
line. That is the extent of the engines break in until the finished car is
driven off the line. If the engine doesn't start on the first trip around
the carousel they let it go around one more time trying to figure out why.
If it hasn't started at the end of the second revolution the motor is taken
off to be dismantled to find out why.
I'm sure every manufacturer does pretty much the same thing.

If improved ring sealing really does happen with this procedure then the
auto manufactures should be able to devise an at the factory procedure that
will provide the same results. The improved performance, i.e. better
compression or whatever, should also boost fuel mileage and lower emissions.
I can't beileve that the manufacturers would not take advantage of that!

Too many variables for owners to follow, and it encourages driving that is
not the "norm", hence liability issues. Also, I doubt they really care
whether someone gets the last few HP out of their engine, since most of the
driving population never gets beyond 1/2 throttle, anyway.

It's in the message below.
I wonder why the auto manufactures do not recommend this simple secret to
ring
sealing?

I don't understand what those photos mean? A scientific report, not an
infomercial. Isn't he trying to sell a magazine?

They presented pictures of pistons/rings that were treated equally
except
for the different break-in methods. What kind of proof would you be looking
for?
