1.  New configuration that would have needed federal crash and emission
testing?

2.  Concerns about warranty repairs on clutches and/or trannies?

3.  3.0L engines already in pipeline?

4.  Concerns about needing to upgrade brakes, suspension, etc. to match
extra torque?

5.  Corporate myopia?

Just some guesses.   I agree a 3.2L MTX would have been cool, but it would
not have brought many customers over from ATX to MTX.
