[Shotimes] rod bearings

Nope.

The emissions testing is related to the engine, AFAIK. Even if it wasn't,
the cost of tooling up for two different ngies had to far exceed the cost of
one additional EPA test.

Besides, it would have been a good "upgrade" for the 5-speed. I'm guessing
that a 14-second MTX SHO in '93 would have had a good review from the car
mags, and would have helped MTX sales a bunch.

FWIW, I did the ATX console in my '95 MTX, and it (1) looks better IMHO, and
(2) with only another 1/4" of width on the left side, it would have worked
fine. I have to cut out a bit to clear on the 1-2 shift.

1. New configuration that would have needed federal crash and emission
testing?

2. Concerns about warranty repairs on clutches and/or trannies?

3. 3.0L engines already in pipeline?

4. Concerns about needing to upgrade brakes, suspension, etc. to match
extra torque?

5. Corporate myopia?

Just some guesses. I agree a 3.2L MTX would have been cool, but it would
not have brought many customers over from ATX to MTX.

And I don't understand why Ford didn't just use the whole 3.2 for the MTX...
