[Shotimes] there arose such a clatter

I've been running 87 octane for around 10 years now in my SHOs. This has
been stock, with Bolt-on Stages ('89 & current '94), and the '99. Also with
"real" gas, 10% alky, and RFG fuel (in Chicago, Louisville, and "Summer Gas"
now in Detroit). I was the first n/a Gen 3 into the 14s running 87 octane.
My V6s have gotten consistent 27-31 mpg on the highway.

Yes, I do run 91-93 octane for the Conventions, as it is always hot, plus we
beat the cars on the track and dragstrip. Other than that, 87 does all you
need for basically stock SHOs.

The oil companies and their stockholders thank you for your generosity!!

Serious??? In the almost 4 years I've had my '89 all it's ever had to drink
is Sunoco 93, and the best I've ever gotten out of it is 25 mpg (all
highway,
18-19 in town).
Admittedly it runs like a bandit (it has new plugs, wires, etc).
Maybe with the rising gas prices I could save enough for an extra cocktail
or
two a week for myself if I pour in the 87 octane...hmmmmmm...

Bottom line is......something isn't right.

Yes, it could be pinging. But, what if higher octane doesn't fix it? And if
it does, it's a band-aid.

There is an issue, as the motor should live happily ever after on 87.
