Well, I don't know what engine was pinging loud enough to hear over open
headers, but it wasn't a SHO motor.

Pinging on the SHO is very difficult to hear.  Often the only way to hear it
is up against a concrete divider, like going through a tollbooth.  It's
pretty subtle.  And it's quick.  It only has to ping a little before the EEC
retards the timing.

I've heard stories of SHOs with very loud exhaust that were pinging big time
and no one knew.
