[Shotimes] Bozo Auto Mechanics

I have dealt with my mechanic for about 20 years. When I bought my first SHO he told me up front that he didn't want to work inside the engine if a problem developed there. He would do anything else on the car, but no rebuilds, etc. I was all right with that and respected him for being honest about it. He's the kind of guy that borrowed a trailer from a friend of his to pick up my 93 SLO on a Sunday so he could change my fuel pump first thing Monday morning. He knew I was in a bind (nothing to drive) and wouldn't let me pay him for picking up the car. Said it was his day off and he'd do what he wants on his day off. My point is, just because a mechanic says no to something like working on an exotic engine like this doesn't always mean he's a bozo and not worth dealing with. I'll get off my soap box now. Dave

heheh, well that's kinda right, however most of the mechanic's i know that just hate certain
vehicles will play the "tricking & no answering" game. Which entitles them the right to diagnose a
problem, however if it's an import that absolutely hate to work on, they'll give people the good
old "those parts are special order..." or try to work people into believing it's about 30hr of
book time work and although they'll help cut off the price, they'll need to leave the vehicle
there for a week... stupid crap like that.

Ron, i'm not disagreeing with ya buddy. I don't want someone to work on my car anymore then they
want to. I usually do my own work, but I definitely don't mind an honest tech. However, finding an
honest tech nowadays is hard enough let alone finding a tech who is as knowledgable as he/she is a
honest!! I usually don't read up on he process of doing a particular job on a car at work. I
normally figure it out. That's not to say I wouldn't mind having some literature to read regarding
a task, especially electronics. Maybe i expect too much of tech's nowadays....
