Because I have owned both, and sold my SE-R to a friend who has since added
more power to bring it on par with the SHO. He has built his own custom air
intake, removed a ton of emission crap, swapped to a stronger and lighter
clutch, and installed a lightweight battery, among extensive suspension
modifications. Now the car can keep up pretty well in the 1/4 mile with my
SHO - we get almost equal times - but his SE-R continues to get eaten alive
by the SHO from a rolling start (35+ mph) and at higher speeds.

Low 16's???? I'm terrible at drag racing, yet have consistently gotten
15.5's out of my SHO. Some of us with stock SHOs have been in the upper
14's!
The new Spec-V SE-R with the 2.5 isn't all that it's hyped up to be. I've
seen a couple Spec-V's at some track days and they just don't perform like a
175 bhp car should. Quite a few of the magazines have been disappointed
with the Spec-V, and many have said Nissan has really over-hyped the car.
All of the dyno runs reflect very poor bhp numbers, and the new 2.5 doesn't
hold a candle to the 2.0 in build quality or strength.
In fact, I'd rather have my old 91 classic over the new SE-R, and I would
probably take a standard SE-R over the Spec-V because of the much better 2.0
powerplant. Unfortunately, though, the new SE-R is much heavier than the
old one, so it is slower...
