I have a Craftsman one I like. It has the adjustable timing dial on the
back. This is nice because you only line up the big dot on the balancer. The
TDC mark. Then you rotate the dial back and fourth until it lines up and
that gives you your current timing setting. To change it just set the dial
where you want the timing to be and then just adjust the timing until the
marks line up again. It is a lot easier than trying to read the small
graduations on the balancer with everything whirling around the fan belt and
such.
I don't use a timing light much any more! The new cars are always perfectly
timed and you can't change it anyway!
