Hi all...
Finished the ATX 60K today....the front end portion. I am working on a critique of
myself to pass to all of you, including my impressions of the 3.2 and what I
learned, so you might benefit. I'll send it later on.
Thanks to those who sent me info on the timing belt tensioner. That went fine,
after I figured out which bolt was "outside" and which was "inside".! Took a minute
or two to determine what was inside and outside of what....the timing cover, dummy!!
LOL!!
The real interesting thing was the idler pulley bracket....it is camoflaged so much
that it looks like the side of the oil pump....I was looking at that water pump
wedged in there, after I got the bolts out, and I was saying....."OK....what's the
trick, here?!!"
Then I found that I had saved John Gentry's text from his web page, and after
reading that slowly a couple or twenty times, I figured out what was removeable, and
what stayed. No problem....it got done. Took about 6 hours, including removing the
damper again, after it was torqued on, to replace the rear side rubber (or whatever
that stuff is) wedge that seals the 'chamber' the timing belt is in around the
tensioner piston assembly. Duh!!
So......the real reason for this post.....the car needs (URGENTLY!!) the accessory
belt tensioner that is on the bottom in the front, between the damper and the a/c
compressor. I don't UNDERSTAND why the three idler pulleys are unique....they're
the same size, why can't they be the same design? Grrrrr!! Glad I don't have an
ATX. But he is going to have the one he has explode in the next week, if it doesn't
get replaced. Anyone cannabalizing a 3.2 for the block? I sure could (he,
actually) use that pulley, if someone has one that is nice and quiet. We'd take all
three, if we could.....just to be on the safe side.
Thanks again for the help, and thanks for any responses!!
George and the Lowrider....sitting back and laughing at me moaning and groaning over
this ATX!! BOY, does my back hurt!!!!
