Hi Jim.....
Remember, I did my LCAs in the parking lot of the hotel at Frederick last year. I
had just done them the week before (and didn't grease them), but that time was the
first in 245K miles. (Yeah, I know....California miles.)
The easiest way to get them off the tension struts is to remove them from both the
subframe and the knuckle. Remove the bolt from the inner bushing, and remove the
bolt from the ball joint, and tap the joint out of the knuckle. Then the LCA will
spin around, and you can twist it back and forth, breaking it loose from the bushing
and/or the strut. If you remove the fastener on the front of the strut, you won't
have anything to use as leverage to get it out of the LCA. Of course, if you have
new struts, you can just replace the whole kit and kaboodle.
I turned in that first damaged new pair of LCAs, and got another pair for free. I
can bring them if you can't get yours swapped, and you need a pair. I won't be
doing any SHO maintenance in the lot this year....to my OWN car, that is....!
