[Shotimes] OT - IRL Gen 4 Chevy, NOT!

I've been an open-wheel fan for a long time (well, I'm only 27, but
since I was a kid!).

I was upset when CART fell apart and the IRL was formed, but like a lot
of the owners, participants and fans, I was tired of all the road
courses. Don't get me wrong, I love road racing, but the champ cars
just don't do it right! The current CART series is just a tad more
exciting than F-1, which lulls me to sleep whenever I turn it on.

Here's what I like about the IRL: fast tracks with multiple racing
grooves, exciting finishes, and no races are won by short-pitting or by
conserving fuel. Sure, there have been people to run out of fuel while
leading the last lap of the race, but that's by far more exciting than
most NASCAR finishes.

Witness yesterday's IRL race at Michigan. Furious side-by-side, passing
and speeds the entire race, all the way down to the final turn pass of
the new "Chevy" to win by 3 feet! Racing just doesn't get much better.
Sure does beat the NASCAR restrictor plate races, Bristol-type tracks
where you have to bump somebody to get by them, or the two (?) road
courses they run.

By the way, if anyone is near Kentucky and wants to enjoy a good
open-wheel race, make the trip to Sparta KY for the IRL race. It's a
1.5 mile track (you can see the entire track/race from any seat in the
house) with high speeds (+210mph) and passing inside and outside through
the whole track. I've been to races (both open-wheel and NASCAR) at
Michigan, Indy, Pocono, etc. and the Kentucky Speedway is now my
favorite. www.kentuckyspeedway.com and www.indyracing.com.

Whew. Sorry to ramble.

Cosworth is a job shop, doesn't matter who owns 'em. When a new engine
is developed, whoever pays the bill gets their name on it. That new
engine has nothing in common with anything Chevy sells. If Hyundai or
Ford or Kia paid for the development, their name would have been on the
same engine.

Personally, I have no interest at all in open-wheel racing (give me
doorslammers!!), but for the folks I know who like open-wheel, none of
them care about the IRL.

If I were a Ford stockholder, I wouldn't want them to waste racing $$$
on the IRL, either.

IMHO, it is yet another Ford mistake! Just think Ford could have come
into IRL and be a major presence, instead it lets GM pull their head out
of their ass...

Anybody else find it humorous that Chevy's new Gen 4 IRL engine, which
dominated and should have won at Michigan yesterday, is made by Cosworth
(Ford)?

I guess a Ford by any other name would be a Yamaha - err, vice versa,
whatever....
