Sounds like a good assesment, Ron.  I remember when I ran your 99 in my 94,
you pulled a bit out of the hole, then we stayed even till I hit 3rd, then I
was reeling you in.  My car still feels the same.  If I downshift on the
highway she pulls like mad, but out of the hole I can almost feel holes in
the power until I hit 3500.
