One way to get the correct amount in is to empty the system first, then add
the amoumt as noted on the a/c info label. Weigh the can full and empty to
subtract the tare weight to get the right quntity installed. It would be
politically and legally correct to reclaim the emptied gas.

Emptying the system down to a slight positive pressure won't allow air to
get into the system. You'll have to short the low pressure switch (if
equiped) to allow the compressor to run at low pressure condition.
