[Shotimes] Tire Rub

When I went to lunch Wednesday I discovered the left rear tire rubbing the
spring bucket. Noting the head was missing off the strut pinch bolt, I
thought it had backed out and then snapped allowing the strut to slip down
in the knuckle and producing the tire rub. I then found out that the
tapered end of the pinch bolt was indeed sticking out the other side as it
should be, but started trying to drill it out for replacement anyway since
the head was missing. My question is, if the strut didn't slip, what is
producing the tire rub? Do I have control arm play issues? The wheel/tire
assembly was firmly attached and the wheel bearing is fine. Tires are
225/60R16 Touring T/A's, but they have been on the car since I got it a year
ago with no clearance problems. New Sachs struts installed on stock springs
last September, and this pinch bolt had a head on it when were we done.
Thanks.
