[Shotimes] (OT) Tire Rack Summer Tire Test

Bigger wheel/tire combos with less sidewall compliance make the suspension
setup much more critical, and supposedly cars that come with the larger
combs from the factory have suspension setups that allow for this. The
McPherson strut setups aren't the best for this, anyway.

Also, there is the possible issue of bending suspension components and
subframes from the additional stresses that a larger wheel can produce. Ford
designs the subframe as the weakest link. An example is that they beefed the
subframe on the Expedition before they went to 17" wheels.

Besides, who needs he extra weight? You can get great brakes that will fit
under 17" wheels.

Yeah, and really have your handling go to hell!!

Generally, not going up more than one rim size is a good idea, and
suspension setups can get dicey. It believe it's safe to say that, unless
you have a full track car with very limited suspension travel, 18" wheels
will be a "looks" thing and will not perform as well as 16" or 17".
