The ring gear is a replaceable part on every flywheel I have ever seen. 
It is also a pressed-on separate steel part on every one I have ever 
seen at the speed shop, even 2 or three piece aluminum race flywheels 
with special inserts, etc.

What the heck is he talking about? Does he know?

Since my (Ford) flywheel is sitting on the floor right now, I went to 
look at it. There are no bolts at all, and the only (threaded) holes are 
for the pressure plate bolts. If they are stripped, I'd buy a new 
flywheel, too critical.
