About 2 weeks ago I noticed that the AC seemed a little humid all of a
sudden and I could smell the humidity. My guess was it was about 5
minutes, maybe less, that it took me to realize that the AC wasn't cold
anymore. I turned the AC off and put the windows down. 15 minutes
later I tried the AC again and it was nothing but hot air, and hasn't
been any better since. My AC has been nice and cold until this point.
I first thought that maybe I was low on R134a, but I kind of doubt it
since this literally happened within a 5 minute period or so. My car is
a 93 thats been retro'd, but I have no idea whats been changed or not
changed, it was done by a previous owner. I'm going to borrow a friends
refilling kit to see what the pressure looks like, but I was hoping for
a few other ideas of things to check. Could the AC clutch just stop
working all of a sudden like that? I'll be checking the gap on it and
also try the broomstick bump to see if its engaging. I also considered
the coil, but when I had one fail on another SHO, the entire thing
seized and tore my belts up.
Might there be a problem with the pressure switch? I'm hoping there is
an easy solution, I don't want to have to find an AC shop around here,
and I'd like to get this fixed while its still hot out. Any other
trouble shooting tips or ideas?
