The filter "base" (or heat exchanger) is held in place by a large (30mm?)
nut.  The unit has a gasket between itself and the block, so might be safe
to just screw off the filter, make sure the nut is tight, and stick the
filter back on.  Otherwise if it's loose, it may drip oil.
