This replacement filter is not a K&N brand. It specifically said, do
not oil. When I put it in the dishwasher, it was on the top rack on a
gentle cycle of some sort, didn't use any soap either, just water. It
came out looking brand new.

Bill,

You put it in the dishwasher? What is the filter media on
that new Pro-M filter? If it is gauze like the K&N, the I
would NOT use the dishwasher. First the soaps for dishes
are way too harsh for that type of filter element, second
the water pressures inside a dishwasher are meant to BLAST
food from dishes. Chances are you have damaged the filter
and it is letting dirt by.

IF K&N SAYS to clean it that way, then you might be OK, but
I would still use the recommended cleaner or the cleaner
from K&N and a gentle flow of water from the kitchen sink.

NOTE: You should NEVER use high pressure air or water on a
K&N filter. Shouldn't use high pressure air on a paper
filter either.
