[Shotimes] Engine Oil Treatments...

I used the Auto-RX product recommended by Paul Nimz in my Grand Cherokee
V-8. It worked, but it worked too good!!!

The problem with the Chrysler 3.9L V-6 and the 5.2/5.9L V-8s is the intake
manifold is a 2-piece unit. The top of the intake manifold is like any
other manifold, but the bottom is a flat piece of metal - it's removeable
and known as the "belly pan". It attaches to the upper part using around 15
bolts with a gasket sandwiched in between. The gasket is problematic and is
known to leak after a certain time period - Chrysler issued a TSB for it.
Once the belly pan gasket leaks it allows motor oil to be drawn into the
intake manifold and causes 2 problems. First, your oil consumption goes WAY
up, and second the burned oil collects in the combustion chamber, namely on
top of the piston. This creates pinging because of the hot spots and also
because the combustion chamber has become slightly smaller. The fix is to
remove the intake manifold and replace the belly pan gasket and then do a
de-carbon procedure with the Mopar CCC, OR you can buy the Mopar Performance
MPI intake manifold which is one-piece and flows better - that's what I did.

So, how does this relate to the Auto-RX? Well, maybe it was just a
coincidence but after using the Auto-RX my oil consumption went from almost
nothing between oil changes to 1 quart every 1000 miles. My theory is that
it did such a good job cleaning the engine internals that it cleaned away
some caked on oil on the belly pan gasket and Bingo. FWIW, the engine did
feel stronger and ran a little smoother after the recommended 2 treatments.
