Hi George.

The trucking rates you have been quoted are very high. You have to keep in
mind that when you get a quote, you are getting it from a broker. A broker
doesn't even own a truck, they just hire a driver and truck to transport it
for them and they charge you 2-5 hundred for the service. I have had cars
shipped all over the country and never spent more than $750 and that was
from southern Florida for a Mustang that didn't run or drive.

There are several sites that brokers use to find trucks to do shipping. They
set the price and pocket the difference.

http://centraldispatch.com/index.htm
http://getloaded.com/

It would save you hundreds of dollars to subscribe to the site for one month
and get your own driver and truck.

You can easily hire a driver and truck to go cross country for $2.00 per
mile or less AND he can carry 10 or more SHOs!!
3,000 miles X 2.00 per mile = $6,000 divided by 10 SHOs = $600 per car. The
same would apply to the return trip.
Or just pay the driver directly and have it done for ~$500.

Plus when you hire a broker they will only guarantee to get the car there,
but they want a 21 day window of when it will get delivered. That wouldn't
work out very well if it showed up the week following the convention.

As far as costing $750 to travel from coast to coast, I think that $750 is
pretty high.

This is what I would think is the higher end.....
Figure gas is $300 (22 MPG at 2.25 per gallon for 3,000 miles)
$20 for an oil change.
Two nights hotel at $150 ($75 per night)
$150 for food ($15 breakfast, $15 lunch, and $20 dinner, for three days)

Of course your mileage is probably better and gas is definitely cheaper, and
good motels can be found for much less.

IMHO.....
