I can feel the rant building up in me right now, but I'm going to keep it
short and sweet. And no this isn't directed at anyone on the list or anyone
in particuler......except maybe "the man."
This is "The System." Either you're part of it, or you're against it. This
is how our sociaty works. We have all kinds of rules that let people get
away with all kinds of things. But you know what's even worse? This is the
same system that will choose an inexperenced idiot that just happens to have
a degree over a qualified expert who just has experence. It happens
everyday. It's just another form of nepotism really. Except in this case
the "family" is the plutocrats, the well offs, the people with money and
power. Sure, you can succeed in America no matter what your background
is......as long as you play your cards right....you know, get good grades,
get lucky with a scholarship, go to the right school, join the right frat,
marry the right daughter. The "American Dream" as we once knew it, never
really existed. Now don't get me wrong I know a couple people that made out
pretty good when they started with nothing, even by cheating the system.
But that doesn't even BEGIN to compare to the people I know that started out
with a silver spoon and now have a platinum one. The System controls it
all. It's ultimatily controlling who comes to power and who doesn't. Play
by the rules, as rediculious as they may be, and you just might get
somewhere, play against them and get screwed. But I think George is on to
something here. 225 years is a long time to live under the same system. So
many rules have changed, but the premiss has stayed the same. I don't know
what we should switch to though. Anarchy has crossed my mind a few times,
but the conclusion is always the same....I like rules, but I just want less
of them, not an absence of them. This is now getting too long and detailed
so I'll conclude this rant. (I am however open to private discussion)
The system, it's a beautiful thing, and a dreadfuly ugly one, all at the
same time. So the next time you think the system is screwing you, think
along your lifespan and see if there was anytime the system gave YOU an
unfair advantage? I know I've been screwed AND helped by it plenty of
times, be it a new job or a speeding ticket. And you thought you did
everything on your own.......... <G>

P.S......Please don't turn this into a 50 reply OT thread. I know it's
tempting, but this message alone will irk enough of the list, you don't need
to fan the flames.
P.P.S.......One last thing to ponder, no one needs to answer this. Think of
a politician in the past 25 years that came from a poor and powerless
background.
