Good one, Bill. My friend Ruth is from Guatemala and I say to her, "All
you Mexicans are so hot-tempered" just to bust on her. She gets mad
for a second but then smiles because she knows I'm joking with her. We
could be watching TV together and she turns it to one of the
spanish-language stations and I jokingly say, "Not these Mexicans
again!". She then tells me that person is from Columbia, that one is
from Belize, that one is Cuban, that one is from Venezuela. She can
tell them apart by sight. I don't know how she does it.
