Ultra high end audio an ego trip? For some, maybe. But have you ever really
heard an ultra high end system? I'm talking a 5-figure price for just the
turn table. My cousin and his brother-in-law used to have a business in
Atlanta (his brother-in-law still does) that specialized in ultra-high and
high end audio/visual/home theater (20-50 seats) and gave me a chance to
hear the difference (I wasn't told which was playing at the time, and they
used the same songs). CD's are fine, but well taken care of vinyl sounds
much better! The system I heard was in Micheal Stipe's (or whatever his name
is, lead singer for REM) home. He didn't get the best available, but wasn't
the worst (for ultra-high end, anyway) and was priced around $35k, not
including speakers, amps, etc.

For a car, CD's, mp3's, heck, even cassettes are fine with all of the
background noise and stuff :-)
