There are some things you just don't do, and one of them is pass
a cop who's doing the speed limit. (around here, they like to go
5 mph under the limit, just to slow people down, I surmise) A
number of years ago I was in California with other people from
work. We were driving through San Diego on our way to Tijuana
(yee ha!), and the guy who was driving passed a CHiP on a motor-
cycle at only a couple of mph faster. I was in the passenger seat,
and the cop and I looked at each other as we passed. Ron kept
going, and soon the lights came on. What the hell were you thinking,
says I. The worst part was that there was no place to pull over. No
breakdown lane. We got off that highway onto another, and there
was still nowhere to pull over. Got off again before there was room
to pull over. The cop gave us a warning, and let us go. But then we
were lost! We couldn't find our way back on our original route.
We passed the same cop going the other way again, and boy did he
give us the hairy eyeball!
