Steve,
as you know, in the GI/GII world 60K involves many things that are not
applicable to GIII. Of course plugs most likely wont last that long, and
frankly It would be my hope that as quickly as possible after the purchase
the weld would take place thereby getting all the other maintenance itmes
addrressed at the same time. 
Trannys? It's a wear item. Change the fluid regualrly and hope for the best.
