I have some little amount of experience in this area. Yes yes, I am admit
it, I am a chronic speeder. I am getting better though. Anyway, the few
times I have been stopped for doing over 100, only once was written up that
way, a 112 in a 75. Cop would not drop it any, mainly because he had to
chase me for 15-17 miles (I was completely unaware he had turned around to
come after me, as he only flashed his lights for a sec then turned them
off). Anyhow, I had to show up in court (and yes, dress appropriately).
This particular judge would not lessen it in any way. His personal opinion
was that anything over 100 he will not have leniency with. So I paid the
fine and walked away. No insurance hit, no reckless driving.

That said, there is hope for you. I have had numerous stops of 10-20 over,
and in many cases I have gone straight to the court clerk and in my nicest
voice, while not seeming desperate, but very sincere, asked for some sort of
break, and they almost always have obliged. Did not even have to go in
front of the judge. Most clereks in most municipalities have the authority
to do this. And since this is your only offense on your record (or that
will be on your record) you just may be able to get them to lower it. Then
even if they decide to send you before the judge, try him to, he likely will
be nice to you if this is your first offence. SOO many people in court are
there for some agregious insults, DUI's, no liscense, wrecks, etc etc, and
they look like they came straight from the trailer park. So dress nice, act
proffessional, be courteous, you likely will get out of there with only a
speeding ticket on your record.
