[Shotimes] Quirk, or "feature"?

I've noticed this for a while, but never thought of asking about it.  Heck, maybe it only happens with MY SHO.  When I turn off the interior lights, the doors lock (or attempt to, if already locked).  I can't think of any reason why it would be designed to do this, so is it just a "quirk"?  Anyone else notice this?  Just curious.

P.S.--Did anyone ever offer a plausible explanation for the dots on the speedometer?  I'm looking at a speedometer from a '67 Mustang, and it has the dots as well--a pair at 14 and 18 MPH, a pair at 44 and 48, and a third pair at 90 and 95.  Definitely not shift points.
