I have bought tires from Tire Rack for many years and had driven by their
South Bend, IN facility many times. Yesterday was the 1st time I actually
got to experience their service 1st hand.
Got there at 7:45 am and there were a bunch of Corvettes getting ready to
run an autocross on their private course. I followed in a 2000 M5 in to the
parking lot. (Owners son, I believe). Went inside and made my selection for
tires and wheels. Brought car into service bay.
Noticed a couple things:
1. They use 4 floor jacks on each car to jack them up.
2. They only use impact wrenches to remove the wheels.
3. They allow customers to mill around the cars and the machines/people
that mount/balance the tires. No sign saying Due to insurance regulations
customers not allowed in shop.
There was this old guy who drove up in a Viper and seemed to take charge in
the service bay. Found out hes the owner! He was making sure all the guys
were doing a quality job, moving tires around, setting pressures. He was
there in the bay the whole time I was there (2 hours).
I now have an even greater appreciation for that company.
