[Spridgets] Question about mating the transmission to the engine

OK the problem is on the ribcase trannys there was a difference in the shaft length between the early and later ones.  When installing on a 948 the answer was to use a thicker 1098 backing plate instead of just grinding off the top of the lip on the thinner 948 plate. I can't help on the 1275 but if the archive is working I think Paul A covered when the change was made and the answer to your problem. As just a guess I think the later shafts where longer and your answer is in the backing plate, but like I said that is just a guess.                Crash.

 David,

They should go together fairly easily.  If you're against a hard stop something is amiss.  I wouldn't force it.  Pull the trans back off and see what's going on.  There are different pilot bushes, but the ID should be the same on all of them.

There's about 3/8 inch left. The transmission isn't going on easily and I'm wondering if we should use the bell housing bolts to pull them together or take is all apart again, and make another try.
