I think you are right about the tube-type "headers"
used on the earlier cars. I also think that when
they went to the cast-iron exhaust manifold, they
also exchanged the two Zenith single-throat down-drafts
with a single two-barrel (Either Solex or Webber, I'm
not sure which.)
I have either heard or read somewhere ("Performance
Tuning the Sunbeam Alpine"?) that neither of these
is considered a "refinement" as far as performance
goes.
Anybody on the list close to Wally Swift? He should
know this stuff!
