Tony Leeming (tleeming(at)city.nanaimo.bc.ca) recently asked me about the
details of any Sunbeam Northwest event to be held in 1995. This event, held
around the Pacific Northwest almost every year since 1979, has been hosted by
enthusiasts from Oregon (the original "Sunbeam Northwest" group), PTC
(Pacific Tiger Club, based in Seattle) and by Canadian Sunbeamers on the
mainland (1983), and most recently on Vancouver Island (1992). Sunbeam
turnouts have numbered anywhere from 35 to 62 over the years, occasionally
with very good showings of Alpines owners, and even a few Minx', Rapiers and
Talbots.
Unfortunately for Alpine owners, Tigers United XX in Grants Pass, OR is
the event of choice this year. Glenn Fukui of Vancouver, BC, is chairing the
event, with some assistance from PTC. No plans are in the works for a
Sunbeam NW event this year. Alpines are "allowed" to enter Tigers United,
but are ineligible for any awards. (Hardly an enticement) The best places
to find other Alpine owners in the NW this year will probably be at the three
regional All-British Field Meets: May 20 at VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver,
BC; July 21 at Bellevue Community College near Seattle; and Labor Day Weekend
at Portland Int'l Raceway in Portland, OR.
