Well my gauges came back from Nisonger, and they look great. I
decided to get to work putting the dashboard back together. Over
the winter, I removed all the gauges and hoses to pull the heater
core and regulator. It had been leaking and the regulator was
rusted. Since everything was out . . . OK so now it's all back
in (except the new glove box), and everything works great
including the fresh air vents. I'm not sure about the ammeter
though. I followed the instructions, but let me know if anyone
thinks I've screwed something up. I pulled the think brown and
two thin brown wires and brought them into a four wire Lucas
connector. The thick wire took up two slots, but I wound the two
thin wires together. I then hooked up the ammeter to the fourth
slot and to the terminal where the thick brown wire had been. I
also plugged the light into the red/white wire coming from the
tach light. I then put the key in the ignition, turned it, and
it started! I haven't had the chance to get the car on the
highway yet, but I'm not sure the ammeter is working properly.
It never seems to stray much from the "0" position. When the car
is started, it moves to the positive side a small distance. If I
flip on the headlights, the needle blips but quickly settles back
in its spot just to the right of the "0." I reversed the wires
and the needle did the same thing on the negative side. Also,
should I extend the black wire that runs between all the other
gauges to one of the securing terminals on the ammeter? Thanks
for all your help so far! I feel like I'm almost there. (Next
I'll start working on the seats and carpet.)
