Hello David
I also had the same problem last year with my S2. The battery wasn't the
reason. The problem occured in exactly the same way as you mentioned it and
became worse after a while so that I had to exchange the starterengine.
I think one reason could be that the starter and the dynamo become to hot
during riding because they are placed to close beside the exhaust system. I
also had to exchange the dynamo...
