Are you sure you need a new engine? Maybe just a new radiator or
water pump will solve your overheating problems. Perhaps there is
some gunk in your engine's water passages which would be cleared out
with a thorough cooling system flush. A new engine seems like
overkill to solve an overheating problem.
Fitting electric fans in front of the radiator is another potential
fix for overheating.
If you do indeed have to get a new engine, the 1725 has 5 main
bearings, the S2 engine has only 3 main bearings. Most people
consider the 5-main superior to the 3-main.
