Subject: What have I got??

Greetings fellow enthusiasts!

I recently purchaced a 1961 Series II Alpine. At least, the chassis
number (B9100235 LRX) indicates 1961... I understand that the engine and
chassis numbers should match, since mine don't, I assume the engine has been
replaced. My problem is, the engine number (B300/772 LHX) does not seem to
match with any Alpine chassis number!... So where did this engine come
from? What is it? The valve cover proclaims "SUNBEAM" and it has dual
zenith carbs... Where can I get a manual for the engine,
or...(shutter)...what engine/transmission/drivetrain will transplant into my
chassis??

Thank You
Joe DiPietro
***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 10/18/95 9:34a

From my list, an engine starting with B300 would belong to a Sunbeam
Rapier III. It is the same block as used on the Alpine Series I, with
1494cc. The Series II block had 1592cc. Twin Zeniths were used on Series
I, II, and early III Alpines.
