I've always heard that the "S" cover was a "racing option" available only on
early Series Alpines. BTW, on mine I had clearance problems with the forward
'rib' under the cover fouling the number three(?) rocker, but only when using
the thin, paper gasket. A bit of filing took care of it.
Hand cleaning and polishing is VERY time consuming and laborious. You might
consider giving it to a professional with the right tools and abrasives. Its
usually not that expensive and it looks GREAT afterwards.
