***** NOTES from Jay Laifman (JLAIFMAN (at) PNM) at 11/7/95 5:33p
I could be wrong here, but I believe that Sunbeam Alpines do not have
the option of just changing the plastic gear. I understand that the
plastic gear in the overdrive does not match the non-overdrive
transmission -- Sunbeam even made a different speedometer for the
overdrive rather than change the plastic gear! If you know where I can
pick them up, and how to determine the right one please let me know! I
have been told by a number of sources that to get the speedo right I must
install everything except the speedo and drive the car a set distance
(slowly) and count the number of revolutions of the speedo cable, then
send the speedo with the revolutions to a speedo shop to calibrate it.
After taking apart the speedo and hearing that speedo shops just change
the spring, I realized the problem with the odometer I mentioned. Thanks
for you input.
